If you re dealing with a lightly rusted surface you may just need to give it a quick scrub with a brush. Wear your protective goggles from this point forward to keep rust particles from flying into your eyes. If you would rather avoid toxic chemicals there are several common household items that can safely remove rust from metal including white vinegar baking soda sandpaper and steel wool.
